What is ElectroBond?
ElectroBond is an easy-to-fit component for propeller shaft grounding, engineered specifically for retrofitting leisure and light commercial vessels.
ElectroBond’s copper-graphite brushes directly connect (electrically bond) your propeller shaft to the rest of your boat’s metalwork. This equalises the electrical potential between your components, and reduces the risk of galvanic corrosion.
Turn the tide on galvanic corrosion
All marine vessels have to deal with the corrosive conditions of the sea. Saltwater is an excellent electrolyte, so when two metals meet in this environment, they form an electrochemical cell - a battery. The less noble (more reactive) of the two metals oxidises and gradually dissolves into the sea.
To prevent galvanic corrosion, vessels are fitted with sacrificial anodes - reactive metals that are intentionally sacrificed to save more valuable components like propellers, prop shafts, and bearings. However, on many drive shaft boats, these are only connected by coincidence. For sacrificial anodes to be really effective, they must be electrically bonded to the components you want to protect.
ElectroBond helps you easily create a preferential, sub-ohm connection to your propeller shaft from your existing cathodic corrosion protection system.
